2013-14 Exec Board - Nominate Yourself
Are you interested in becoming a member of the PTO Executive Board? Please nominate yourself. All you need to do is complete the nomination form and send it back to school in your child’s backpack. As always, please contact any member of the current executive board if you have any questions! (Your nomination form must be received by May 1st to be considered.)

A parking shuttle will be available from 5:30-8:15pm from the Millcreek pool parking lot. Please consider donating any gently used books to our Used Book Sale. Donations can be brought to the school office by April 24th. Anyone interested in volunteering their time to help with one of the activities listed above can contact Natalie Harper.

Market Day
Check out MarketDay.com for some new items this month including 100 calorie steaks and turkey filets. Also, with $90 online orders get free 4-pack Lemon Pepper Chicken! Register to order online and be eligible for many special coupons and offers only available to
registered members. Online orders for APRIL are due by Friday April 26th at 11:00pm and the sale pick up is TUESDAY APRIL 30th from 2:15-3:15. Just a reminder: only cash and checks can be accepted for payment at the sale pickup. To pay by credit card, please place your orders online. Break with Books
Our final Break With Books gathering this year is on Wednesday, April 17th in the school library during lunch recess. All second, third, fourth and fifth grade students are invited to attend. Break With Books is a gathering time to talk with your classmates about a book of your choice that you read outside of school. If you plan on participating on April 17th, please read a book of your choice at home prior to our gathering date and also return the Break With Books permission form to school. We hope to see you there. Please direct your questions to Kathy Granquist.

PTO Meeting
Next PTO meeting is Tuesday, April 16th! TIME CHANGE!!! 8:30 AM in the Cafeteria. Please set aside time on this morning to attend. There are many exciting changes coming to Fabyan, this is your chance to be “in the know”. We have a great school but with all of our ideas and efforts working together we can make it even better! We look forward to seeing you there.

Fifth Grade Send Off T-shirts are on their way!
All 5th graders are encouraged to wear their send off t-shirt to school every Friday to show their school spirit. All 5th Graders will wear their Send Off t-shirts for a group photo at the Fabyan 5th Grade Send Off Picnic on May 17th.

Field Day
This year Field Day will be held on Friday, May 24th with a rain date of May 28th. Please mark your calendars! We need lots of volunteers. Look for volunteer information to come home in backpacks after we return from Spring Break. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa McAuliffe.

Attention all Chess Players!
Illinois Chess Teachers will come to our school for 8 sessions held on Wednesdays from 2:15-3:15 for only $109. Students will learn: Chess strategy, tactics, positional ideas, piece placement, opening theory, and end game play. Activities include: Chess tournaments, team games, simultaneous exhibitions, having fun, and making new friends. All skill levels from Complete Beginner to Expert are welcome. Those interested, please contact Lana Waters ASAP. If enough students join, we can start as early as February 13th!

Attention 5th Grade Parents!
The 5th grade send-off is fast approaching and plans are underway. We are now taking orders for commemorative t-shirts signed by all of the 5th grade students for the students to wear to the May event as well as each Friday leading up the big day. Cost per shirt is $10. T-shirt orders can be made via the order form that will be going home in backpacks shortly, the PTO Website, or you can stop by our table at the Fun Fair located in the gym. Regardless of how you order, please have your 5th grader stop by our fun fair table, so we can collect his or her signature. BASKETS…BINS…SPRINGTIME PAILS…
If you have any extra baskets or small plastic tubs that you don’t need any more, please bring them to the PTO workroom and label them “SS”. The Spring Splurge Raffle committee is looking for containers to arrange the raffle items for display at the craft show in a few short weeks. You will not receive these items back. Thank you in advance for your donations!

We're on Facebook and we need your help to get the word out! Please help make our 2nd Annual Craft and Vendor Fair a huge success. It’s easy; just “LIKE” us on Facebook (Facebook.com/SpringSplurgeCraftAndVendorFair) and encourage your friends and family to do so as well!
The key to success is attendance, so please save the date on your calendar and join us on Saturday, March 2nd. Bring your family and friends because you won’t want to miss it. There will be something for everyone! Stop in and take your chance on winning a raffle prize, stock up your freezer with some yummy baked goods from our bake sale, and of course visit our diverse selection of 70 local crafters, artisans and vendors! You will find everything from hand-crafted items to health solutions, from the next “best” cupcakes to purses and accessories and so much more!

Fun Fair
Mark your calendar for our 4th annual Fun Fair held on February 15th 5pm-8pm. Tickets are available here! We are in need for donations for the ever popular children’s raffle. We will gladly accept any new toys, games, crafts, etc. In addition, please ask your employer if they are interested in donating tickets or merchandise to any upcoming local sporting events. We will have a drop box in the office labeled “Fun Fair Donations” for your convenience.

After School Enrichment Continues!
After School Enrichment will continue for 2 more weeks on Thursday, 1/31 and 2/7 from 2:20 until 3:20 in the afternoon. If you have any changes to your child's dismissal procedure, please be sure to notify the school as well as the ASE committee at ASE@fabyanpto.org. Also, we ask that you PLEASE turn right when exiting the parking lot from either the bus circle or main parking lot. This is to prevent interference between these two exits and also to prevent a back-up on Grengs Lane at the South Mill Creek intersection. Thank you for your understanding.

Day has to offer! Our next sale pick up is on TUESDAY JANUARY 29th from 2:15-3:15 in the school cafeteria. Orders can be submitted to the school by Thursday, January 24th OR online by Friday, January 25 at 11:00 PM. IMPORTANT—the only form of payment we are able to accept at the sale pick up is cash or check. To pay by credit card, orders need to be placed in advance. Chick Chat - 4th & 5th Grade Girls
On Saturday, February 9th, 2013 the Geneva Coalition for Youth and TriCity Family Services, with the support of Geneva CUSD 304, are launching Chick Chat by HGNA. This one-day, evidenced-based workshop for fourth and fifth grade girls is designed to provide inspiration, guidance and perspective on the changes these girls will encounter during their early adolescent years.
Throughout this fun-filled day, girls will hear motivational presentations, break into small groups with experienced, professional facilitators to discuss topics such as cultivating inner beauty, understanding feelings, and developing healthy family and peer relationships, develop team-building skills, and learn stress-reducing techniques from trained yoga instructors.

ASE Class Confirmations Sent This Week!!!
Class confirmation emails will be sent by 3pm, Jan 11 to all families who have students participating in After School Enrichment. If you believe you registered your child but DID NOT receive a confirmation email, please contact the ASE committee IMMEDIATELY at ASE@fabyanpto.org.
If your class had a fee, please be sure to pay online by Wednesday, 1/16. Classes will begin next Thursday, 1/17 right after school!

Break With Books

Aurelio's Pizza Restaurant Night
The Fabyan PTO will be hosting a Pizza Night School Fundraiser at the Geneva Aurelio’s, 330 W.State Street, on Tuesday December 11th. Mrs. Thompson will be hosting the event from 5 – 7 p.m.! Come down and support Fabyan while enjoying some delicious Aurelio’s Pizza. Make sure to mention Fabyan School when ordering (or present the flier coming home in back-packs)! Our school will receive 15% of your total check. Good for carryout or dine in all day long.

Break with Books
The first Break with Books gathering is on Wednesday, November 28th at the school library during your lunch recess break. All SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH, and FIFTH graders are invited this year. Break with Books is a gathering time to talk with your classmates about a good book of your choice that you read outside of school. If you plan on participating this November 28th, then please read a book of your choice at home prior to our gathering date and also send in the Break with Books permission form to school by Monday, November 26th. Break with Books is a fun time to hear about good reads. We look forward to seeing you there. Salvation Army Bell Ringers
Fabyan families can sign up to ring the Salvation Army bell on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 to 4:00 outside the Walgreens on Randall and Fabyan. Get the sign up form here. Your family will be able to sign up for 30-minute time slots. If you have any questions please contact Jamie Abraham.

Shop with Scrip
You should have received your order form in your child's backpack. Look it over during the Thanksgiving break and turn your order in by Friday, November 30th. Gift cards are a great gift idea for teachers, babysitters, and just about anyone on your holiday list!

Funway Skating Party
Part of the Red Ribbon Week activities, there will be a Fabyan Roller Skating Party at Funway on Tuesday, October 23rd from 3-5pm. Doors will open 15 minutes before. Cost is $5.25 and standard skate rental is included. Inline skate rental is $2.50.

Spirit Wear
Support your school by wearing your Spirit Wear! Orders are currently being accepted through October 19th. All items purchased will be delivered via your child's backpack in early November. We have a cool new logo this year so check out the website to place your order. Healthy Hustle
Save the date! The Healthy Hustle is taking place on Friday, October 12th and registration is only $5/family. Have fun walking with friends on the 0.7 mile path and enjoy healthy snacks when you are finished. All money raised will be donated to the school for playground or PE equipment. Look for registration forms to come home via backpack week of 9/17. Register online here.

Dippin' Dots
Dippin’ Dots are back! This special treat will be available eight Fridays this year during all lunch periods:

We are requesting that you pre-order online or pay with cash or check using this order form. You may pay monthly or all eight at once. All orders need to be placed by noon the Monday prior to the sale date (unless otherwise noted). Cash will not be accepted on the day of sale. Cost: $3.00/per pouch

International Walk to School Day
This year’s International Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 3rd! Walk or bike to school and be a part of this international event. This year, the Kane County Sheriff’s office will have a deputy on site to assist students crossing Fabyan Parkway before and after school. We encourage parents, neighbors, and friends to join in and enjoy a leisurely stroll or ride with other Fabyan families.
