Did You Know…Fabyan Elementary PTO is breaking the norm? As of this week, there are 96 out of 213 families signed up for committees. That's a participation rate of 45%!!! Keep up the great effort Fabyan!
Committee Spotlight – My Sister School
My Sister School is a new committee that is dedicated to boosting both awareness of and compassion for those in need in our own backyard. An application is being written that will be submitted to several less fortunate school districts within a 20 mile radius of Fabyan Elementary. Any of these schools wishing to be financially partnered with Fabyan can submit this application with one school being chosen to be Our Sister School. Fabyan students will then have various opportunities to support this school throughout the school year. Not only will the chosen school benefit from this new program, but also our students will reap the benefits of the realization that not all schools, even those located so close to us, have the programs, PTO support, parent involvement and tangible items that we sometimes take for granted. It is the ultimate hope that once the program is established at Fabyan, other schools in our district will follow our lead and will partner with a school of their choosing.

iGive SupportersThank you, thank you... thank YOU! Thanks to donors like you, Fabyan Elementary School PTO has raised $156.29 so far through this amazingly simple, no cost to you, donation platform, iGive.com! AMAZING!!
Don't forget to utilize the iGive donation options when doing your holiday shopping this year. Together, we can work to raise even more money simply by shopping at iGive's partner sites and clicking the iGive button to confirm your donation to Fabyan Elementary School PTO. If you are anything like me, the simplicity of having all of my holiday gifts delivered is a HUGE benefit during this busy time of year. Most of my gifts come from online stores, and almost all them are iGive partners!
The iGive Button does it all for me! I have the iGive button on all of my browsers so I don't have to "think" about it... it just tells me if I am on a partner site and asks me to confirm that I want to give. If you don't already have the button (the little dandelion seed next to your browser), please consider down-loading this option. It makes donating even easier so you never miss an opportunity. Get it here: http://www.igive.com/button/
Together we can raise money for Fabyan Elementary School PTO without spending anything we wouldn't already be spending. And isn't that a gift in itself? It sure makes shopping more bearable to know that the store is giving part of my purchase back to help our cause.
"Shop with Scrip" is BackWhen you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing prepaid gift cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase cards for everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. They make great gifts for babysitters, teachers and anyone else you are thinking of "gifting" this holiday season! And with every purchase you make, Fabyan will earn revenue that will help pay for enhancements to our school. Look for the order forms to come home in your child's backpack the week of November 11th.
Spirit WearFayban families- you ROCK! Spirit Wear sales were a huge success! We had 101 families purchase from the new line. Thank you for supporting the new spirit wear like you did. Make sure to have your children show their school spirit on Fridays and at school events.
If you are still in need of placing an order, please see Sherry or myself for an order form. Thank you again!
Thanks for supporting our school! Together, we can make a big difference! Keep clipping Box Tops and send them to Fabyan before the fall submission deadline of October 26. If you miss this deadline, keep sending them in, we will continue to collect them throughout the year. Our current goal for this school year is $851. So far, we have collected $160. Every box top makes a difference so keep clipping them. Don't forget to ask friend and relatives. You'll be surprised to see how many people clip Box Tops.
Labels for Education
This year our school is once again participating in the Labels for Education® program. Through this program, we can collect UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from participating products to earn points that can be redeemed for FREE educational merchandise! Recently, the students received new playground equipment for recess, which included basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, playground balls, a horseshoe set and baseball bases. All these items were purchased through the Labels for Education program using the points earned from the UPC's our Fabyan families clipped off eligible LfE products. Our goal this year is to collect 10,000 points that we can redeem for classroom materials and playground equipment. It’s easy to help – simply save UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from participating Labels for Education products and send them to school with your child or drop them off in the school office. To see a complete list of participating products and point values, please go to www.labelsforeducation.com/Earn-Points/Participating-Products. Also, visit Facebook.com/LabelsForEducation to find out about additional ways to earn Labels for Education bonus points! If you have any questions, please contact Tammie S.

that Fabyan continues to change and grow? This school year we have 17 new families! Please extend to them a warm welcome from our Fabyan family. The best way to meet new people is to get involved with the PTO. Please contact Robin and Karen at firstname.lastname@example.org; we are happy to answer your questions. Welcome to Fabyan Elementary!
Calling all Kindergarten and 1st grade parents…the Yearbook Committee needs you!!
As a member of the yearbook, you have the opportunity to attend classroom parties, class fieldtrips, assemblies and programs!! You will take pictures of the students and create a collage page online using the pictures you and other yearbook members have taken. It is important to have a parent at each grade level who knows (or gets to know!) the students so we can make sure everyone is represented! There are opportunities throughout the year to take pictures, and many events are right around the corner, so don’t delay! We look forward to hearing from you! Please contact Karen C or Wendy R.
Committee Spotlight – Art Explorers
Art Explorers at Fabyan is an enriching program that promotes art and creativity in our students. Three times a year, Art Explorer volunteers present a famous artist and a piece of his or her artwork to each classroom and then guide the students through an art activity. When possible, certain artwork is chosen in order to follow the curriculum of the class. This year, we are excited to announce two artists we added to the program: Renaissance artist Leonardo DaVinci and Native American artist Oscar Howe. We will be in the classroom soon for our Fall Presentations and are always looking for volunteers any time of the year. Please see our sign up on the website or contact the committee chairs: Amie R and Zaneta Z.
2013-14 Committee Sign Up
Room parents and party room helpers have been filled for 2013-14. Thank you to everyone who signed up via the Internet and the Back to School party! Sign-ups continue for our other committees! Set the example for your child(ren)! See how you can be involved. You are invited to Sign Up for a Committee or two or three! If you are uncertain about what is involved, please contact one of your executive board members. Also consider signing up for the “General Volunteer List”. This is an easy, no-commitment opportunity to show your support for Fabyan! When the PTO has a need for volunteers or donations, an email is sent to the General Volunteer List with the details of what is needed. If you are able to provide for what is being requested, you simply respond to the email. If you are unable to assist with that request, you can ignore the email and delete it. We are excited to welcome new faces and happy to answer your questions!

Committee Spotlight – The Golf Outing
The golf outing committee was formed out of an idea in the fall of 2012 to create a community-building event for all of the Geneva elementary schools that would also generate funds for each school. During the first joint PTO council meeting of the 2012-2013 school year, Fabyan Elementary invited the other five elementary schools in the district to participate. Interest was sparse, but Mill Creek and Fabyan decided to forge ahead and really make this a community event, considering the bulk of students that attend the two schools are Mill Creek residents.
The event has seen tremendous support from local businesses by means of sponsorships. A few of the sponsors you may know: Mill Creek Golf Club, Shodeen Homes, Mill Creek Dental, Thirty-One Gifts, Green Fields of Geneva, Mill Creek Life magazine, Bill Cho’s Tae Kwon Do, Don McCue Chevrolet, Accelerated Health Systems, Geneva Bank and Trust, Dayspring Pediatric Dentistry and there will be more by the event date. Other sponsorships have been received from Fabyan and Mill Creek families. Thank you!
The committee was also conscious of making the event accessible to all families. This was the catalyst for the Festival portion of the event as well as the kids’ golf tournament portion of the event. All facets of the day come together as one at the banquet, where there is a catered dinner, games and raffles.
The most difficult part of any event is recruiting volunteers. We are confident that our fabulous Fabyan families won’t let us down! The final outcome from all the planning is yet to be seen. Why not come and see for yourself if it was worth all the effort!
PTO Meeting Highlights
Mrs. Thompson's presentation of the new common core math standards and where to gain access to the details was much appreciated. Educate yourself at www.commoncore.org. Our district is using the Eureka Math curriculum.

PTO Committee SpotlightNEW THIS YEAR!!! Each Fabyan Facts newsletter will include the PTO Committee Spotlight that highlights a different PTO committee or position. Maybe you will see something that sparks an interest?
Head Room Parent & Party HelpersDo you enjoy volunteering in your student’s classroom? The PTO sponsors two classroom parties each year – the Halloween Party and the Winter Party – planned and run entirely by parent volunteers. The Head Room Parent and Party Helpers manage these annual PTO classroom events.
Each classroom is assigned 1 Head Room Parent who will oversee the planning of both parties, coordinate a yearend teacher gift, help staff the classroom games during Fun Fair, if needed, and serve as a liaison between teacher and classroom parents.
Each classroom is assigned 3 Party Helpers per party. Each Party Helper will be responsible for one of three areas: snacks, crafts or games. Depending on the role, the Party Helper will come to party ready to supply a tasty (allergy safe) snack, a creative party craft or lead a game. The Head Room Parent works with the 3 Party Helpers to plan and coordinate the party, communicating the budget, food allergies in the classroom, etc. The Head Room Parent is also responsible for communicating the final party details to the teacher prior to the party. All four parents are present at the party to keep things running smoothly to ensure a fun party for everyone.
Last April, all parents were invited to sign up for a committee, including Room Parents and Party Helpers, via fabyanpto.org. As explained on the website, we try to assign all interested parents to at least one party. In the event there are more interested parents than there are openings, we will assign parents based on the time stamp of the online submission.
